Cadillac Reformers: Two Machines on One Frame

A Cadillac reformer is one apparatus that works as a reformer in one session and as a trapeze table in the next. The carriage, springs and footbar sit inside a raised canopy that carries a push-through bar, a roll down bar and a trapeze. For a room that can hold one large machine but not two, it belongs on the shortlist. It also brings compromises that a product photo will not show you.

What is a Cadillac reformer?

A Cadillac reformer is a reformer frame with a full overhead trapeze structure built onto it, so both repertoires share one footprint. The carriage handles footwork, strap work and box work. Cover or convert the carriage and the same frame supports the trapeze, spring and bar work normally taught on a separate Cadillac table.

Combination units compared

  • Elina Pilates Cadillac Reformer: a maple frame 94.49 in long with a 22.05 in bed and 84.65 in overall height. It weighs 386 lb and carries 6 bed springs on a 4-position spring bar plus 8 Cadillac springs.
  • Elina Pilates Elite Cadillac Reformer: 97.64 in long and 408 lb. It adds a chair push bar worked by two long green springs, singly or together, plus a 7-position quick-change footbar.
  • Elina Pilates Dark Wood and Natural Wood Cadillac Reformers: a lower 13.78 in bed on an 88.58 in walnut or maple frame, 72.24 in tall with the trapeze fitted, with 8 trapeze springs and a push bar that sets at 3 heights.
  • BASI Systems Reformer Combo: a 95.3 in beech frame that runs as a reformer, a reformer with tower, a raised mat or a full Cadillac. Its five reformer springs each have three gear positions. The trapeze set adds twelve springs in six weights.
  • Peak Pilates Artistry Convertible: thirteen springs across both modes, meaning a five-spring reformer kit plus an eight-spring Cadillac set. A flip carriage speeds conversion and Artistry Twin Mats are included, with rope, leather or vegan straps to choose from.

Why buy one instead of two machines?

Mainly to save floor space. One combination frame takes far less room than a reformer standing beside a Cadillac, which matters in a private studio or clinic room. BASI's room guide for the whole Reformer Combo is 12 ft long by 7 ft wide with an 8 ft ceiling.

Budget is the second reason. A combination unit shares one carriage, one set of legs and one upholstered surface, so the extra repertoire costs less than buying a second complete frame.

What do you give up with a combination unit?

You give up simultaneous use. Only one person can work on the frame at a time, so a client on the trapeze blocks the reformer for that whole session. Conversion also takes a few moments between clients, whether that means laying a mat over the carriage or flipping the carriage on the Peak Convertible.

Height is the other cost. The Elina Cadillac Reformer stands 84.65 in tall and the Elite version 86.61 in, so a low basement ceiling can rule them out before floor area does. The BASI Combo is lower at 76.7 in with its trapeze fitted.

Who should choose a Cadillac reformer?

Choose one if you teach one client at a time and want the full classical repertoire in a single room. Private instructors, clinical practices and home studios with generous ceilings get the most from the design. A busy group studio usually does better with separate reformers and one dedicated Cadillac.

Every combination frame we offer is listed with its heights and spring sets in Cadillacs and trapeze tables. If a half tower covers your teaching instead, the reformers with tower need less ceiling and less floor.
