What a Reformer Bundle Should Include
A reformer on its own covers a large part of the repertoire, but not all of it. The short box series, long box work, jumping and many standing exercises each need an accessory. Buying those pieces with the machine is often simpler than tracking them down later, provided the bundle includes the right things for how you plan to use it.
What should a Pilates reformer bundle include?
At minimum, a sitting box sized for the reformer. After that, look for a jump board, a platform or extender for standing work, a short box bar and spare loops. The box matters most because it opens the short box and long box repertoire. Everything else widens what the machine can do.
The box comes first
Peak's standard long/short box measures 27.5 by 16 by 9.5 in, the size paired with its MVe, casa, fit and Artistry reformers. Larger boxes around 29 by 16 by 11.5 in give taller clients and larger frames a roomier surface.
Elina takes a few approaches. The Master Instructor and Mentor bundles include an extra-wide padded box that mounts parallel or perpendicular to the reformer. The HL, Lignum and Nubium bundles include a padded box. On the home line Elina lists the box as optional, which is why the Fold and Vertical are also offered in a version with the box included.
BASI supplies its sitting box as a separate item. Its Compact frame needs a smaller box of its own.
Jump boards, platforms and extenders
These pieces change the foot end of the reformer:
- Jump board: a padded surface at the foot end for horizontal jumping. Peak's board for the casa, MVe and fit slides in without knobs. The BASI board fixes with two thumbscrews.
- Standing platform: a stable surface for standing, kneeling and lunging. A large standing platform can measure 17.5 by 5 in.
- Platform extender: a larger padded area at the foot end. The casa version is 25 by 14 in and weighs 3 lb.
- Short box bar: a 31 in hardwood bar weighing 1 lb, held during short box work.
- Extra loops and handles: double loops and padded handles for different hand and foot positions.
What do the Peak MVe and Elina bundles contain?
The Peak MVe Reformer Bundle pairs the stackable reformer with the long/short box, jump board and short box bar. The Elina Elite Wood Reformer Bundle includes a padded box, jump board, standing platform and six springs, plus double-loop straps in cotton, padded handles, foot handles, pulley ropes and a foot strap.
Some listings stop short of a full bundle. The Peak MVe with Long/Short Box includes only the box. Elina's Domo bundles vary in whether the box and jump board are included, while the casa Reformer Bundle goes further than the box-only casa by adding the jump board and padded platform extender.
Buy add-ons that fit your model
Accessories are rarely universal. BASI makes separate jump boards for the Reformer, the Compact and the Reformer Combo because the mountings differ. Peak's Artistry reformers take their own jump boards, including a dancer-style board with a wider stance. Platform extenders differ between the casa and fit. Before adding anything later, match the accessory to the exact model name on your frame.
