Ceiling Height for a Pilates Tower or Cadillac

A plain reformer only asks for floor. Add a tower or a Cadillac and the apparatus needs height as well. The number on the spec sheet is only the start of that calculation, because a person sitting up, reaching overhead or hanging from the canopy needs room above the frame. Here are the published heights across our range and how to check a room before choosing a machine.

How tall is a Pilates tower or Cadillac?

The towers and Cadillacs in our catalogue stand between 70 in and just under 89 in tall. Reformers with a half tower mostly sit between 70 and 81 in. Full trapeze tables reach 84 in or more. A raised-bed tower machine can come close to 89 in, which is taller than many people expect.

Published heights, lowest to highest

These figures come from the product pages for each machine:

  • Elina HL 1 Aluminium Reformer with Tower: 70.47 in
  • Peak MVe Reformer and Tower: 72 in
  • Peak Artistry TWS tower: 73 in
  • BASI Reformer with Tower and Compact Reformer with Tower: 74.9 in
  • Elina Master Instructor Reformer with Tower: 79.92 in
  • Peak Artistry Classic Cadillac: 84 in
  • Elina Cadillac: 84.65 in
  • Elina Physio Wood Reformer with Tower: 85.43 in
  • BASI Cadillac Trapeze Table with tall legs: 87.2 in
  • Elina Master Instructor Physio Reformer with Tower: 87.8 in
  • Elina HL 4 Aluminium Reformer with Tower: 88.58 in

Why bed height changes the tower height

Towers mount to the frame, so raising the bed lifts the whole tower with it. The Elina HL line shows this clearly. The same machine at four bed heights gives tower heights of 70.47 in, 74.8 in, 80.71 in and 88.58 in. The Master Instructor behaves the same way. Its tower stands 79.92 in on the standard 15.75 in bed and 87.8 in on the Physio bed of 23.62 in, a gap that matches the change in bed height almost exactly.

BASI shows the effect through legs. The Reformer Combo with its trapeze fitted is 76.7 in on short legs, while the Trapeze Table reaches 87.2 in with the tall set. Check which legs a configuration includes before measuring.

How much clearance should you leave above the frame?

More than the spec sheet suggests, because people sit up and reach above the bed. BASI lists an 8 ft ceiling in its room guide for the Reformer Combo, which is a useful benchmark. For other machines, add the bed height to the seated height of your tallest user, then allow for arms reaching overhead.

Hanging work needs the most space. A client suspended from the canopy uses the full frame height, so ceiling fans, pendant lights and low beams directly over a Cadillac are a real hazard. Sloped attic ceilings deserve a measurement at the exact position of the machine, not at the highest point of the room.

Getting tall parts into the room

Height matters on the way in too. Uprights and canopy rails are long pieces. A tight stair turn or low landing can stop them before the room ceiling becomes an issue. Measure doorways, landings and every corner on the route.

Some towers make this easier. The HL tower is a folding steel design weighing 44 lb. The Lignum and Elite Wood towers are designed to come apart easily. Heavier tables such as the 332.1 lb BASI Trapeze Table call for two people throughout assembly.

Once the ceiling checks out, explore tower systems for half-tower setups or Cadillacs and trapeze tables if the room can take the full canopy.
